Unstuck & On Target! Executive Functioning Program in Calgary
Helping kids turn homework meltdowns and rigid thinking into flexibility, planning, and confidence.
When a bright child freezes over a change in plans, struggles to start homework, or gets overwhelmed by multi-step tasks, it is rarely a matter of poor discipline. Executive functioning skills—like cognitive flexibility, organization, and goal-setting—are brain-based capacities that must be taught and practiced.
Our Unstuck & On Target! program gives kids aged 8–11 the exact tools they need to navigate unexpected changes, manage frustration, and set goals without emotional shut-downs.
Does this sound like your child?
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to see when executive functioning roadblocks are holding your child back. You might be noticing:
- Rigid Thinking: Extreme meltdowns or anxiety when plans change, rules shift, or things do not go as expected.
- Task Initiation Paralysis: Staring at a blank page or procrastinating for hours before starting homework or chores.
- Goal-Setting Struggles: Difficulty breaking big tasks into smaller, manageable steps without losing focus.
- Frustration Overload: Getting stuck in “stinkin’ thinkin'” or quitting the moment a task becomes challenging.
What is Unstuck & On Target!?
Unstuck & On Target! is an evidence-based executive functioning intervention tailored specifically for children in Grades 3 to 5 (ages 8–11). Through hands-on games, interactive routines, and guided self-regulation tools, students learn what flexibility is, why it matters, and how to use it in real life.
The program builds core capabilities in:
- Cognitive Flexibility: Learning how to compromise, shift gears, and try a “Plan B” when “Plan A” falls through.
- Goal-Directed Behavior: Setting realistic goals, planning steps, and staying on track despite distractions.
- Self-Regulation & Coping: Recognizing when their brain feels “stuck” and using proven coping strategies before a meltdown happens.
- Real-World Application: Home-practice activities so new habits stick at school, home, and during sports.
- To encourage peer support.
- To learn about autism. To increase coping skills.
- To provide the opportunity to express feelings in a safe place.
- To facilitate open communication within families.
