Hi! I'm Dave!

I am a student member of the Association of Counselling Therapists of Alberta (ACTA) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Under the supervision of Dr. Caroline Buzanko, I’m completing the practicum placement of my MA in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University, en route to certification as a Registered Psychologist in Alberta next year.

As a counsellor, I use an integrative model with clients drawing on several evidence-based approaches, such as Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, to develop collaboratively a support plan that suits each person’s unique needs. I believe that we are who we are because of the people in our lives; our relationships shape us, and we, in turn, shape others. But, relationships are hard. In therapy, I try to help clients reach for the things and people that give them life and joy and to see where they are life and joy for others. I do this work with individuals, couples, and families. My previous work as a hospital chaplain gives me eyes to see the importance of spirituality for many people especially in times of suffering and grief.

Alongside my counselling work, I maintain a land consulting business in oil and gas. I also like stepping back from it all by putting my canoe in a quiet mountain lake with my wife or one of our four kids. I enjoy woodworking, gardening, and taking care of our dog, sheep, and chickens. Every winter, I put on the jacket of an amateur ice rink maker and bobsled track builder and just go for it!

Take the first step towards confidence and new beginnings.
