Helping Adolescents & Children in Alberta
At Koru, we begin with connection and a focus on the client as an individual, with their own unique needs, strengths and challenges.
Through our work together, we focus on developing self-awareness, education, informed by the expert understanding of ADHD that we have. This will help you or the person you love get an understanding of their own unique set of strengths and challenges with ADHD and how to capitalize on their strengths to learn the skills that are needed to succeed in life.
Everyone is different, and understanding oneself, their unique gifts, and what is going well, are all essential in our strength-based approach to ADHD.
With our children and youth, we also get to know what is going on for the family. We integrate a variety of approaches in our work together above just talking – we may use things like visuals, games, and, most importantly, practice new skills and build effective coping strategies to manage big emotions.
Parents and caregivers are an important part of the team and are actively involved in the process so they can also receive feedback and advice about ways to help the child. We may also work with teachers, school counsellors, outside providers, and any other members of your child’s support team.
